Company Overview

The Kanna Collective is a proudly woman-owned cannabis and hemp retail brand founded in 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina. What began as a small, hands-on operation making made-to-order prerolls has grown into a community-focused cannabis business with retail locations in Charlotte, a mobile van, an online store, and an in-person experience that includes a smoke lounge and coffee bar.
Kanna offers a curated selection of cannabis and hemp-derived products, including THCa flower, Delta-9 edibles, THC-infused beverages, cartridges, concentrates, topicals, tinctures, accessories, and more. The brand is built around trust, education, community, and safe access to high-quality products backed by transparent third-party testing.

Goals & Objectives

The Kanna Collective needed a full digital foundation capable of supporting a fast-growing, multi-location cannabis retail business. Their goals included moving away from their existing Shopify setup, migrating to a new WordPress website, launching on a new domain, and building a stronger SEO foundation from the ground up. Because the domain was brand new, the project required a careful migration strategy, strong technical SEO, well-structured content, and a scalable website architecture that could compete quickly in a highly competitive local search market.
Beyond the website redesign and migration, Kanna needed a digital platform that could support complex operational requirements. This included product syncing from Korona POS, custom API integrations, location-based product and delivery logic, loyalty program support, payment processing support, analytics and reporting, email infrastructure, Google Business Profile support, content development, and ongoing technical consulting. The goal was not just to build a website, but to create a digital ecosystem that could support retail, e-commerce, local SEO, customer experience, and backend operations.

Why This Project was Important

This project was important because The Kanna Collective was launching into a competitive cannabis and hemp market with a new website, a new domain, and a need to generate visibility quickly. Starting from a brand-new domain meant there was no inherited SEO strength to rely on, so the site needed to be built correctly from the beginning. The structure, content, technical setup, product architecture, local SEO, and tracking systems all needed to work together to help the brand rank, convert, and scale.
Ok Omni helped Kanna move from Shopify to WordPress while also managing the added complexity of a domain migration, custom POS integration, API-based product syncing, multi-location support, delivery-related functionality, payment processing challenges, email infrastructure, and SEO execution. The project required both high-level strategy and hands-on technical development. Within six months, the site achieved top rankings for major local, transactional industry keywords, making it one of the strongest SEO and custom development case studies in the Ok Omni portfolio.
